Franco Saliola (UQAM) has been appointed Scientific Deputy Director
The CRM welcomes Franco Saliola to its team as Scientific Deputy Director from July 1, 2024 for a 2-year term.
Franco Saliola is a professor at UQAM and current director of the CRM research lab LACIM (Laboratoire d’algèbre, de combinatoire et d’informatique mathématique). He obtained his PhD in 2006 from Cornell University under the supervision of Kenneth S. Brown. His research interests fall within the realm of algebraic combinatorics, a highly active field that mixes algebraic and combinatorial techniques to study problems in mathematics and other scientific disciplines. His research program developed from explorations into algebraic structures arising from random walks on hyperplane arrangements, and naturally expanded to include the representation theory of finite monoids, symmetric and general linear groups, and related algebraic structures. He is a keen proponent for the use of computer explorations in mathematics research, which he has successfully integrated into various facets of his research program.
