Call for nominations: Director of the Centre de recherches mathématiques (CRM)

NOMINATION DEADLINE: MAY 22, 2024. 

The CRM is looking for a Director for a four-year term beginning July 1, 2025.

The next Director will be:

• a researcher of international stature;
• francophone;
• with demonstrated management skills;
• with good knowledge of the Quebec, Canadian and international research environments;
• with a thorough understanding of how mathematical research is structured and funded in Quebec.

This person will be responsible for ensuring the success of the CRM and is expected to continue the tradition of initiating and implementing various major initiatives that will structure research in Canada. The Director will work to secure and grow funding for the Centre, maintain excellent relationships with federal and provincial government departments and agencies, and apply for grants at several levels. The designated person will also be co-director of the IRL-CRM-CNRS.

More specifically, the Director will be the person responsible for the strategic development and administration of the CRM, which includes, but is not limited to:

1. Conduct and support of mathematical science research;
2. Creating partnerships with industry and governments;
3. Ongoing communication activities to promote the CRM and mathematical sciences to different communities;
4. Developing its network of collaborations in Canada and internationally.

The selection committee is chaired by Frédéric Bouchard (Université de Montréal) and is composed of:

• Sylvie Benzoni-Gavage (Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1);
• Steven Boyer (Université du Québec à Montréal);
• Henri Darmon (McGill University);
• Marlène Frigon (Université de Montréal);
• Catherine Sulem (University of Toronto).

Successful candidates will be invited to present their program statement to the regular members of the CRM at the General Assembly scheduled for late August 2024. An electronic consultation will follow.
