Mitacs Globalink Research Internship for Students from India

Mitacs Globalink Research Internship is a competitive initiative for international undergraduates from the following countries and regions: Austria, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Jordan, Mexico, Pakistan, Peru, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Tunisia, Ukraine, United Kingdom and the United States.

From May to October each year, top-ranked applicants participate in a 12-week research internship under the supervision of Canadian academic institution faculty members in a variety of academic disciplines, from science, engineering, and mathematics to the humanities and social sciences. Mitacs Globalink Research Internships are currently available at over 70 academic institutions across Canada.

This initiative ouline below leverages Mitacs’ Globalink Research Internship program to connect exceptional mathematics and quantitative talent from India with professors who are members of the CRM. The initiative aims to strengthen international research collaboration, attract top global talent to Canada, and create new pathways for academic and innovation excellence.

The Mitacs Globalink Research Internship connects professors who are members of the CRM with high-achieving international undergraduates for research collaboration.

  • Mitacs provides financial support for interns: including airfare, housing stipends, insurance, and enrollment fees, requiring no direct funding from the faculty’s research grant. 
  • Build a global network to recruit future Master’s and PhD candidates. 

Eligibility Criteria for Professors

To be eligible for hosting interns as part of the Globalink Research Internship (GRI) program, faculty must:

  1. Have one of the following statuses at an eligible institution :
    • Full Professor,
    • Associate Professor,
    • Assistant Professor,
    • Adjunct Professor,
    • Emeritus Professor.
  2. Be able to supervise international students at their institution.
  3. Be able to host interns within the GRI program’s required timeframe. Internships must begin between May 1st and July 31st and run for 12 consecutive weeks. Professors are asked to remain as flexible as possible in accommodating these timelines. Please note that internships must be conducted in person; virtual or hybrid arrangements are not permitted.
  4. Faculty may participate in either this initiative or the regular GRI stream within a given GRI cycle, but not both.
