Gilles Brassard Receives the 2025 A.M. Turing Award
Gilles Brassard, a professor at the Université de Montréal and a long‑standing regular member of the CRM, has been awarded the prestigious 2025 A.M. Turing Award jointly with his collaborator Charles H. Bennett. Recognized by the Association for Computing Machinery, they are honored for their foundational contributions to quantum computing and secure cryptography.
A pioneer of the BB84 protocol, Brassard revolutionized the way information can be transmitted with absolute security, paving the way for technologies that now lie at the heart of a rapidly growing industry.
The ACM highlights the visionary nature of their work, which has transformed our understanding of information.
Already a recipient of the Breakthrough Prize and the Wolf Prize, Brassard reaches the pinnacle of international recognition with the Turing Award. His remarkable career—almost entirely rooted at the Université de Montréal—illustrates the lasting impact of his discoveries on quantum technologies and their future.
