Séminaires de mathématiques supérieures (SMS)

This is a high-level summer school in pure and applied mathematics that has been taking place annually since 1961. Focused on a hot research topic, the SMS brings together top quality lecturers and students from all over the world. The school is targeted mainly towards advanced graduate students. The usual duration of the school is two weeks, and typically it includes 10-12 minicourses. The school is attended by around 40 to 60 students selected on a competitive basis. Proceedings of the summer school are often published as a volume. Financial support for the accepted students is available.

The main institutional partners of the SMS are the Centre de recherches mathématiques (Montréal), the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences (Toronto), the Pacific Institute for Mathematical Sciences (Vancouver), the Institut des sciences mathématiques (Montréal) and the Simons Laufer Mathematical Sciences Institute (Berkeley). It also receives the support of the Université de Montréal. While most of the time the school is hosted by the CRM in Montréal, every few years it is also hosted by the Fields Institute and the Pacific Institute for Mathematical Sciences.
