FRQ support for the CRM-CNRS International Research Lab

The CRM receives support from the FRQNT within the framework of the agreement establishing the CRM as an IRL of the CNRS. This support allows the CRM to offer its scientific members and students the possibility of short or medium-term stays in France.

Four possibilities are offered:

Research Internship in France for CRM Students

Graduate students registered in a Québec university and supervised by a CRM member (or a
member of a CRM lab) are eligible for a Scholarship for a Research Internship in France. Here
are the program rules:

ELIGIBILITY OF STUDENTS

  • Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status or foreign student status with a Québec study
    permit.
  • The student must be registered (full-time) in a Ph.D. or M.Sc. program in a Québec
university and meet the requirements of their program,
  • The student must be supervised by a member of the CRM or of one of its laboratories.

CONDITIONS

  • The scholarship is valued at $2500/month for living/travel expenses; the total amount
    may not exceed $15,000.
  • The internship may last from 1 to 6 months.
  • Deadline to apply to the CRM: Applications will be considered 4 times per year. The corresponding deadlines are January 10, April 1, July 1, and October 1. To receive support from this program, the research internship must start at least 2 and at most 9 months after the relevant deadline.

PROCEDURE FOR SUBMITTING APPLICATIONS

  1. Identify a candidate and an internship (location in France and duration).
  2. Provide a description of the work that will be undertaken during the internship.
  3. Provide the CV and recent transcript of the candidate,
  4. A letter of recommendation signed by his or her supervisor.
  5. A letter signed by the internship supervisor indicating the planned start and end date of
    the internship.
  6. Send the internship application at the latest 10 weeks before the beginning of the internship.

EVALUATION CRITERIA

Applications will be assessed by a CRM committee. The criteria are:

  • the excellence of the candidate’s academic record and his/her research skills;
  • the degree to which the internship project fits within the CRM’s and its laboratories
    research program priorities.

ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF THE INTERNSHIP

At the end of the research internship, the student will need to provide to the CRM expense
receipts (transport tickets; accommodation receipts, etc.) as well as an internship report within
30 days of the end of the internship in order to receive the last scholarship payment.

Please note that the students who are registered for a co-degree (“cotutelle”) in both a French
university and a Québec university are not eligible to apply for an internship in their home
universities.
