Scientific Deputy Director Search

The Centre de recherches mathématiques (CRM) is dedicated to excellence in research and training in the mathematical sciences and their applications for more than fifty years. The CRM hosts, organizes and supports scientific activities including thematic programs, research workshops and summer schools. In addition, it coordinates the activities of its research laboratories and supports several high-profile visitor and exchange programs as well as outreach activities, distinguished lecture series, prizes and publications. Housed at the Université de Montréal and having as other institutional partners Concordia University, l’Université Laval, McGill University, l’Université du Québec à Montréal and l’Université de Sherbrooke, the CRM receives major funding from NSERC, the FRQNT and the Simons Foundation, and collaborates with a multitude of national and international partners.

The main task of the CRM Scientific Deputy Director is to provide scientific guidance and coordination for the programs of the Centre.  The Deputy Director is an ex-officio member of the Management Committee of the Centre and collaborates with the Director to establish long term planification and strategic goals. The Deputy Director occasionally represents the CRM in international and national meetings, in coordination with the Director.

The qualifications expected for the position are: a well-established international research reputation in the mathematical sciences; evidence of scientific management capacity and experience; some knowledge of the Canadian and Quebec research ecosystems; ability to communicate and write fluently in French and English; and good knowledge of the Quebec mathematical community and its institutional components. The starting date for this position is July 1st, 2024. The Deputy Director mandate is for two years, renewable.
