{"id":5575,"date":"2022-01-08T15:06:39","date_gmt":"2022-01-08T20:06:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.crmath.ca\/?p=5575"},"modified":"2022-03-08T15:19:40","modified_gmt":"2022-03-08T20:19:40","slug":"2021-cap-crm-prize-is-awarded-to-robert-raussendorf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.crmath.ca\/en\/2022\/01\/08\/2021-cap-crm-prize-is-awarded-to-robert-raussendorf\/","title":{"rendered":"2021 CAP-CRM Prize is awarded to Robert Raussendorf"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Centre de recherches math\u00e9matiques (CRM) and the Canadian Association of Physicists (CAP) are pleased to announce that the <span class=\"details\"><a href=\"https:\/\/services.cap.ca\/medal\/publicity\/press.php?year=2021&amp;medal_id=6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> 2021 CAP-CRM Prize in Theoretical and Mathematical Physics <\/a> <\/span>is awarded to Robert Raussendorf, University of British Columbia, to recognize his eminent contributions to the theory of quantum computing, including groundbreaking work on measurement-based or &#8220;one way&#8221; quantum computing, fault-tolerant quantum computing, and computationally universal quantum phases of matter.<\/p>\n<p>Prof. Raussendorf has made multiple fundamental contributions to the theory of quantum computation. He proposed a new technique, the &#8220;one-way&#8221; or measurement-based quantum computer, which is considered one of the few viable paths for physical quantum computers. He developed a scheme for fault-tolerant quantum computing, and identified a computationally universal phase of quantum matter.<\/p>\n<p>The objective of this award is to recognize research excellence in the fields of theoretical and mathematical physics.
