International Women in Math Day – Film Projection and Panel Discussion<\/a><\/h3>\n

Join us in celebrating International Women in Mathematics Day, May 12, with a film projection followed by a panel discussion.<\/p>\n

Screening of the film Le Th\u00e9or\u00e8me de Marguerite<\/em> (in French with English subtitles). <\/em><\/strong>This 2023 French fiction film, written and directed by Anna Novion and starring Ella Rumpf, portrays the experiences of a brilliant woman graduate student in mathematics, touching on many aspects of what it means to be a mathematician. The mathematician Ariane M\u00e9zard (Sorbonne) served as a consultant for the film, and the research depicted centers on Goldbach\u2019s conjecture, a classical problem in number theory.<\/p>\n

Panel discussion following the film.<\/strong>\u00a0 The panel will feature women mathematicians from diverse backgrounds and at different stages of their careers. The discussion will focus on collaboration<\/strong>, a central theme of the movie and an important aspect of career development, particularly relevant to women and individuals from underrepresented groups in mathematics. The following faculty members are confirmed to participate in the panel: Linan Chen (McGill), Lucile Devin (ULCO, France, visiting the IRL CRM-CNRS), Nadia Lafreni\u00e8re (Concordia), and Patricia Sorya (U. Ottawa, 2025 Carl Herz prize recipient).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Seminars in Undergraduate Mathematics in Montreal (SUMM)<\/a><\/h3>\n

January 9 to January 11, 2026 at MIL Campus \u00d7 McGill University<\/p>\n

The Seminars in Undergraduate Mathematics in Montreal (SUMM) are organized by undergraduate students from Montreal universities. The main objective is to create an environment facilitating the exchange of ideas and interests as well as allowing students to network.<\/p>\n

Women and Mathematics in Interaction<\/a><\/h3>\n

On June 12, the first-ever annual international conference \u201cWomen and Mathematics in Interaction\u201d will be held at the CRM. The conference will bring together researchers from various disciplines to encourage interdisciplinary exchange and promote the inclusion, gender equity and leadership of women in the mathematical sciences. It also aims to support the next generation of mathematicians and strengthen international collaboration networks between women mathematicians.<\/p>\n

LG&TBQ2: geometry, topology, and dynamics<\/a><\/h3>\n

From June 2 to 6, 2025, at CRM, the LG&TBQ2 conference will celebrate LGBTQ mathematicians in geometry, topology and dynamics. This is a follow-up to the LG&TBQ\u00a0conference organized in 2019 at the University of Michigan by Autumn Kent, Harrison Bray, Diana Davis, Talia Fern\u00f3s and Thomas Koberda.<\/p>\n

The goals of the summer school are two-fold. First, to introduce students to research level mathematics and second, to encourage more female and female-identifying students to pursue graduate school in the mathematical sciences. The research theme of the 2024 summer school will be Combinatorial Commutative Algebra, [\u2026]. By introducing the advanced mathematics in a supportive and engaging environment, we aim to give students the tools and the support structure that will enable them to thrive in graduate school.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
