The primary goal of the laboratory is to promote and advance research in applied mathematics.<\/p>\n<p>The laboratory&#8217;s two main activities are, on the one hand, the CRM Applied Mathematics Seminar, and on the other hand, the nomination and training of talented young researchers through graduate and postdoctoral fellowships. These activities are complemented by workshops, thematic programs, and visitor programs. The laboratory&#8217;s main research themes and the associated members are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Partial Differential Equations (Bartello, Choksi, Lessard, Lin, Lorin de la Grandmaison, Nave, Tsogtgerel)<\/li>\n<li>Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing (Bartello, Brugiapaglia, Chang, Gerolin, Guignard, Humphries, Lessard, Lorin de la Grandmaison, Nave, Oberman, Owens)<\/li>\n<li>Dynamical Systems and Control (B\u00e9lair, Bramburger, Caines, Forbes, Humphries, Lessard, Nave, Yousefzadeh)<\/li>\n<li>Optimization and Data Science (Bramburger, Brugiapaglia, Chang, Choksi, Forbes, Gerolin, Hoheisel, Oberman, Paquette, Vetta)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These themes strongly overlap, fostering fruitful discussions and collaborations among the different laboratory members, as well as connections with other CRM laboratories such as CAMBAM, MILA, or the Probability Laboratory. Furthermore, the members of the Applied Mathematics Laboratory cover a broad spectrum of classical research in applied mathematics, including the theory and numerical analysis of partial differential equations, calculus of variations, fluid dynamics, dynamical systems, mathematical biology, optimal control, optimization, convex analysis, and numerical linear algebra, as well as contemporary topics such as compressed sensing, machine learning (including deep learning), optimal transport, high-dimensional approximation, variational analysis, and rigorous
